MEET SWEET SIMPLE VEGAN
Hi friends, welcome to our blog! My name is Jasmine, and my partner Chris and I run Sweet Simple Vegan.
Our blog started in 2013 as a hobby blog, but has since then transformed into a platform for us to share our passion, and hopefully inspire others to choose to live more consciously for themselves, the animals and our planet.
Blogging wasn’t always on my radar. In fact, I graduated high school with the intention of going into the medical field, but first year of college changed everything for me. When I was a freshman in college, I developed an eating disorder. It took over my life, diminished my health, and I hit rock bottom. I eventually had to leave my university to move back home to get everything back in order. At the time, it seemed like it was for the worst, but as time progressed, I realized that the change it brought to me was for the better.
I started doing research to find a way to improve and regain my health, and that is when I came across veganism. It just started off as a diet for me, but eventually after continuing to do research on the topic, I realized that it was much more than just the food. I learned about the environmental and ethical reasons behind going vegan and it was then that I decided that even after I restored my health, I still wanted to continue being vegan.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles
I have a bachelors degree in nutritional science.
Elf will be one of my all-tine favorite movies.
If I had to at one food for the rest of my life, it would have to be pancit.
My journey to live a more compassionate and conscious life began back in 2009. Two years out of high school, my eyes widened to the scope of animal cruelty and factory farming and I began to feel sick to my stomach. Previous to this, I was the kid in school who made fun of the vegetarians, so this was a complete and total shift in thinking. After seeing the Canadian punk band Propagandhi live in NYC, I decided to give up meat for good and went vegetarian, but still clung on to the mindset of never being able to give up dairy and eggs.
It wasn’t until years later that I started to connect the dots. I began to realize that if I truly wanted to live a conscious and compassionate life, I wouldn’t be able to do so by just being vegetarian. I knew I needed to cut out all animal products, but the thought was daunting for me. I toyed around with the idea of going vegan for a few months, and finally I set the mark of January 1, 2013, to make the full transition to a vegan lifestyle.
I was born and raised in a 1 square mile town in New Jersey and lived in the same house for my whole life
I moved to Los Angeles in 2015 with just 2 suitcases
I played bass in a band called A Need For Reason for 6 years after high school and had hopes of touring and playing professionally. I now play in a band called The Fireside Story.
I will be a forever emo kid at heart.
